Roz Izzo
Studio Owner
Roz started her dance career at age three (unknowingly!) taking classes in tap and jazz. By age 12 she was training in three classes a week - two in Albany for tap and jazz, and private ballet lessons under Arlene Pasiunes (member of the Radio City Rockettes touring group). Roz was involved with six years of performing in the television industry, and did numerous show tours throughout the country. She also worked two years on location with Albany Fashion Models. Her teaching began at the age of thirteen with a love for the "Performing Arts" and imparting it's impact to others; realizing that dance affects every area of one's life.
Roz attended The College of Saint Rose for early childhood education and currently holds a New York State nursing license.
Her dance curriculum involves extensive continuing education with dance conventions. One of her favorite teachers on tour was Thommie Walsh, a member of the original cast of A Chorus Line.
Roz has seen the art develop and change from students' abilities to teachers' knowledge. "One of the greatest rewards is to see how the studio that started 49 years ago has improved". At Roz's Dance Works students can experience different teachers, techniques and styles, along with a caring staff of inspiring instructors and assistants. It is her belief that you can't teach performance in a classroom only; "To learn to perform you've got to get your derriere on the stage". The year end productions combine the advancing skills of the dancers along with gala stage effects, bringing audience attendants not only from the local community, but from across the States. Many viewers are pleasantly surprised and claim "It's like a Broadway Show!" Participating dancers are from Columbia, Greene, Dutchess, Ulster and Albany counties, and have traveled as far as Long Island to take weekly classes.
In the future our goal is to maintain the quality of teaching, staying on top of dance education trends so that the students and teachers get the inspiration and information they need.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Now entering its 52nd year, Roz's Dance Works has the right formula, and it isn't a business formula - "It's a passion, a love of what we do. It's wanting the students to challenge themselves to do better and leave inspired - WE CARE!”
Now we leap into another new and exciting dance season - our 52nd!!!!!
SEE YOU ON THE DANCE FLOOR!
